X Tweet Transcript API
Returns the transcript of a video attached to a tweet, including auto-generated captions.
GET /v1/twitter/tweet/transcriptLast updated November 2026Maintained by the SocialCrawl team
When to use the X Tweet Transcript API
Use it when a tweet carries video and you need the spoken words; tweet returns the media attachment but not its speech.
From the API reference
Returns the spoken words from a video attached to a tweet, auto-generated captions included. Costs 10 credits per call, the most expensive endpoint on this platform: twitter/tweet returns the media attachment itself for 1 credit, and this returns what is said in it. A tweet with no video, or a video with no speech, is a 404 with error.details.reason: no_captions and is not charged, because X answers those two identically. Videos up to 10 minutes (600 seconds) are supported; a longer one returns 400 INVALID_REQUEST with error.details.reason: video_too_long and max_seconds, also free. Every one of these outcomes is deterministic, so retrying returns the same answer. A video over 2 minutes is transcribed on demand and can take a minute or more, so allow up to 300 seconds before your HTTP client times out.

What can you do with the Tweet Transcript API?
The Tweet Transcript endpoint gives you structured X data with computed fields in a single request. No scraping infrastructure to build or maintain.
Example Request
# GET /v1/twitter/tweet/transcript: 10 credits per call. Cache hits are free and failed calls are refunded.
# Check the price first for 0 credits: add dry_run=1 to the query. Nothing is fetched or charged.
# --max-time 41: this endpoint's measured p99 latency x 1.5.
# --retry 3: retries timeouts, 429 and 5xx, honoring Retry-After.
# -o response.json keeps only the final attempt's body.
# One Idempotency-Key per request, reused on every retry, so a retried call is never charged twice.

What does the X Tweet Transcript API return?

"transcript": "Since you're kind of like a leader in innovation and technology in our world, you know? Um, do you How do you know that what your convictions are, how do you gauge if what your convictions are are the best for everybody? Kind of like, how do you kind of figure that out, you know? It seems like such a challenge. I mean, look, at the end of the day, um, there's still a lot of options of things that people can do. Just because I build something doesn't mean that people are going to use it. Actually a lot of the things that I build like some some of them work, some of them don't and like, I think part of the reason why the company has been successful is because, you know, maybe we have a slightly higher hit rate of things working than others. But if we do something that doesn't work, then in general, people aren't going to use it and then the future doesn't go in that direction. So, I see, so you're saying it's up to the user more. Yeah, I mean, look, it's always served me well to generally have faith in people and believe that people are smart and can make good decisions for themselves. And whenever we try to like adopt some sort of like attitude of, \"Oh, we must know better than them.\" It's like, we're like, we're the people building technology, that's when you lose. So I I I tend to just think that at the end of the day, yeah, I mean, I think people are smarter than than a lot of people think, and I think ultimately drive the direction that society goes in."
