Utility Detect AI Text API

Returns how likely a text was written by an AI model: a calibrated probability, a level (likely, possible, unlikely or too_short) and the model name.

GET /v1/utility/ai-detection

Last updated November 2026Maintained by the SocialCrawl team

When to use the Utility Detect AI Text API

Use it to check one post, comment or passage you already have. To filter a whole page of posts, pass label=ai_written (and exclude=ai_written) on the post endpoint instead.

From the API reference

Pass one post, comment or passage as text (up to 8000 characters) and get back how likely it was written by an AI model, from SocialCrawl's own text classifier: p (0 to 1, calibrated), level (likely at p 0.95 or higher, possible at 0.71 or higher, unlikely below, or too_short for a text under 8 words, which carries p null) and model (the model name; a new name means a new scale). The model reads the opening of the text, about 1,000 characters. It is the same judgment post endpoints publish under label=ai_written, so a post checked here and on a list gets the same answer. It is a probability, not proof: a person can be flagged and an AI-written text can pass, and the shorter the text the less certain it is. Nothing is stored. 1 credit; a call that cannot be scored right now is a 503 and is not charged.

Utility API

What can you do with the Detect AI Text API?

The Detect AI Text endpoint gives you structured Utility data with computed fields in a single request. No scraping infrastructure to build or maintain.

Example Request

# GET /v1/utility/ai-detection: 1 credit per call. Cache hits are free and failed calls are refunded.
# Check the price first for 0 credits: add dry_run=1 to the query. Nothing is fetched or charged.

# --retry 3: retries timeouts, 429 and 5xx, honoring Retry-After.
# -o response.json keeps only the final attempt's body.
# One Idempotency-Key per request, reused on every retry, so a retried call is never charged twice.

What does the Detect AI Text API return?
Returns how likely a text was written by an AI model: a calibrated probability, a level (likely, possible, unlikely or too_short) and the model name. The response uses the same JSON envelope as every SocialCrawl endpoint, with the data, credits_used and request_id fields.
When should I use the Detect AI Text endpoint?
Use it to check one post, comment or passage you already have. To filter a whole page of posts, pass label=ai_written (and exclude=ai_written) on the post endpoint instead.
How much does the Detect AI Text API cost?
Each call costs 1 credit, so the 100 free credits every new account gets cover 100 calls. Credits for failed or empty calls are refunded automatically, and there is no subscription.
What parameters does the Detect AI Text API need?
The one required parameter is text (the text to check: a post, comment or passage, up to 8000 characters).
How do I call the Detect AI Text API?
Send a GET request to https://www.socialcrawl.dev/v1/utility/ai-detection with the parameters above and your API key in the x-api-key header. An Authorization: Bearer header works too.
