Google Trends Rising API
Returns related searches for one keyword in two lists: rising queries with their growth percentage, and top queries with a 0 to 100 popularity score.
GET /v1/google_trends/risingLast updated November 2026Maintained by the SocialCrawl team
When to use the Google Trends Rising API
Use it to find the breakout searches driving a trend, after explore has shown you how big that trend is.
From the API reference
Returns the related search queries for ONE keyword as { rising, top }. rising is the breakout list: queries whose search interest grew the most over the window, each with a growth percentage (a true breakout can read into the thousands, e.g. 3200 = +3200%). Google's own "Breakout" rows (growth above +5000%) carry is_breakout: true; when Google gives no percentage for one, growth is null rather than an invented number, and rows with a number carry is_breakout: false; top is the most-searched related queries, each with a 0-100 relative value. The closest thing to a 'breakout terms' primitive: pair it with /v1/google_trends/explore to size a trend and find the queries driving it. A keyword with too little search volume in the requested location and window to build a related-query list returns 404 at 0 credits: that is a fact about the KEYWORD, not an unsupported location, and the same location will answer 200 for a keyword people there actually search. Widen timeframe or use the keyword in the local language before concluding a location is unavailable. A billed refresh is typically 5-9s and the slow tail reaches about 30s, so set a client timeout of at least 60s: this surface reads Google Trends live and Google itself is the slow part. Exact repeats may use the 2-minute search cache and return in milliseconds at 0 credits.

What can you do with the Rising API?
The Rising endpoint gives you structured Google Trends data with computed fields in a single request. No scraping infrastructure to build or maintain.
Example Request
# GET /v1/google_trends/rising: 5 credits per call. Cache hits are free and failed calls are refunded.
# Check the price first for 0 credits: add dry_run=1 to the query. Nothing is fetched or charged.
# --max-time 60: the API's own time limit for this endpoint.
# --retry 3: retries timeouts, 429 and 5xx, honoring Retry-After.
# -o response.json keeps only the final attempt's body.
# One Idempotency-Key per request, reused on every retry, so a retried call is never charged twice.

| Parameter | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| keyword | Yes | Single keyword to expand (e.g. 'uv index'). Google Trends returns the related-queries list for one keyword only, so a comma-separated value is rejected with a free 400 before the request is billed. The keyword must be 2 to 100 characters; use /v1/google_trends/explore for multi-keyword comparisons. |
| location | No | Location as an ISO country code ('US', 'KR'), a full country name as Google Trends spells it ('United States', 'South Korea'), or a numeric location code ('2840'). Common spellings and ISO codes are normalised, so 'KR', 'Korea' and 'South Korea' all reach the same place. Google Trends does not publish every country, and a location it has no data for is rejected with a free 400 naming the accepted forms; a 404 means the keyword had no data there, not that the location is unsupported. Defaults to worldwide-leaning US. |
| timeframe | No | Preset time window: past_hour, past_4_hours, past_day, past_7_days, past_30_days, past_90_days, past_12_months, or past_5_years. Defaults to past_12_months. (past_hour | past_4_hours | past_day | past_7_days | past_30_days | past_90_days | past_12_months | past_5_years) |
| category | No | Numeric Google Trends category code to scope the related-query lists (default 0 = all categories). The same codes /v1/google_trends/explore accepts; 0 is every category. A non-numeric value is rejected with a free 400. |
